4 Day Wildlife Selous Wildlife Adventure
This 4 day Selous Wildlife Adventure Safari which begins in Arusha can either be taken as a sole safari or an additional to a safari in the Ngorongoro Crater of the Serengeti as it extends your adventure to the remote wilderness of southern Tanzania. The Selous Game Reserve covers a total area of 55,000 sq km of unspoiled wilderness and as has been named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The game reserve is crisscrossed by two rivers: that is River Ruaha and River Rufiji. The Selous offers great opportunities for watching big wildlife, as well as enjoying bush walks and exciting boat cruises on the numerous oxbow lakes and river tributaries. This safari itinerary can be extended with a beach holiday in Zanzibar or a wildlife safari to any of the southern National Parks which include: Saadani, Ruaha, Gombe, Katavi as well as Mahale. In case you wish, you may actually extend it with a Swahili cultural trip to the spice island of Zanzibar, or Mafia, or Pemba.
Detailed Itinerary
This safari extension explores the pristine southern Tanzania and best applies for safari itineraries that end in Arusha after completion of a safari in the safari parks in northern Tanzania. In the morning you will catch your charter-flight from Arusha and head to the Selous Game Reserve where you will reach in the late afternoon. At the airstrip, our safari guide will welcome you and drive you to your accommodation where you will have dinner and spend the night. En-route you will enjoy a game drive during which you will see a number of different animals. The Selous Game Reserve located in Southern Tanzania covers a total area of 55,000 sq km of unspoiled wilderness and as has since 1982 be named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Back in 1922, four (4) game reserves within that area were conjoined and formed today’s Selous Reserve, which was named after Sir Frederick Courtney Selous, a renowned big-game hunter, conservationist, British officer as well as explorer. Besides its very large herd of thousands of giant elephants plus Cape buffalos, this reserve prides in a large population of different large mammals among which are huge hippo pods plus large lion prides in addition to numerous African wild dogs. This is very varied terrain. You will also be able to see the towering giraffes feeding gracefully on the acacia trees within the deciduous miombo forest. There are large wildebeest herds plus numerous antelopes commonly seen grazing in the grasslands scattered with a few trees just north of River Rufiji, and these are at all times on the lookout for lions. Selous Reserve is home to more than 440 different types of birds which make it the ideal place to have a bird watching safari.
Later in the evening you will transfer to your accommodation where you will have dinner and spend the night.

During these two days you will have an opportunity to explore Selous game reserve the largest wildlife reserve on the African continent seeing the rich diversity of wildlife found within this reserve during our exciting game drives led by our very knowledgeable safari guides. You will dine and spend the night at your accommodation.

Today after breakfast, you will have your final activity within the Selous game reserve and then transfer to the airstrip for a flight to Dar es Salaam where you will catch your departure flight, or to Zanzibar for an extension beach safari or Swahili cultural safari experience.
